Fibre is important for people who are gluten intolerant. Since they often get too little fibre in their diets, Fria is introducing two much-requested and high-fibre newcomers this autumn. The new Wholegrain Mini Baguettes are a full 9% fibre and are baked with nutritious sunflower seeds, flax seed and wholegrain buckwheat. Our Buckwheat Rolls made with grated carrot and topped with buckwheat flakes have a 4.5% fibre content. Naturally, both breads are gluten-free and milk-

free, satisfyingly chewy and truly delicious. They are also unsweetened, which makes them a splendid choice. Both breads are great for breakfast or lunch or served as a dinner roll. Suggestion: warm a Wholegrain Mini Baguette in the microwave and in seconds you can make your own “mini-sub” with your favourite filling. You will find them in the freezer case in all well-stocked grocery stores. Nutritional information and hypersensitivity charts are available on our website under “Products.”

To all coeliacs

New standard for gluten-free products.
If you already eat Fria products, the new standard will not involve any change for you!

Background

The Codex standard for gluten-free foods provides guidance on the accepted levels of gluten in products sold to people with coeliac disease (gluten intolerance). This standard is due to change, which means the labelling terms you see on products will look different.

Changes
Present standard: Naturally Gluten-free: max 20 ppm gluten, wheat starch not allowed
Gluten-free: max 200 ppm gluten, wheat starch allowed

New standard:

Gluten-free: max 20 ppm gluten, wheat starch and pure, uncontaminated oats allowed
Very Low Gluten: max 100 ppm gluten, wheat starch and pure, uncontaminated oats allowed
ppm=parts per million, i.e 1 mg/kg
